From home tours to educational sessions and networking events, green builders will have a lot to keep them busy at the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas Jan. 20-23. Here’s a run-through of some of this year’s highlights.

  • Jan. 21 is the second annual Green Day at IBS, with education and networking events taking place throughout the day. More than 30 sessions on green building science, technology, and marketing are planned, including in-depth looks at green site development and a special featured speaker, Green to Gold author Andrew Winston. Click here for a full list of green seminars.

  • On display in the exhibition hall will be Builder magazine’s 2,464-square-foot, two-story contemporary Builder LivingHome, which boasts a comprehensive approach to mainstream green building products and practices. Combining modular construction and panelization, the house displays a hybrid approach to home building utilizing factory-built and on-site methods.

  • Just a shuttle bus ride away, the New American Home 2009 will showcase the most innovative energy-efficiency technologies in the 26-year history of the program. It features a heating and cooling system that runs on clean-burning natural gas, photovoltaic cells, and a solar water-heating system. The contemporary home also includes fountains, pools, and a basement-level subterranean courtyard.

  • On the exhibit floor, green pros won’t want to miss the Ask the Experts: Residential Efficiency Programs booth, featuring pros from the DOE, the EPA, and PATH regarding the development and use of technologies that promise to improve housing durability, efficiency, and environmental performance.

  • And be sure to check out all of the green products that will be on display on the show floor. For a preview, check out EcoHome’s coverage here.
