USGBC Forms Organization to Manage LEED Accreditation

With support from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI) was launched this month to take over administration and management of the LEED Professional Accreditation (LEED AP) program. The organization will develop the program in accordance with credentialing best practices and also will create a maintenance program for LEED AP credential holders.

The GBCI is independent from the USGBC and will undergo ANSI accreditation for personnel certification agencies complying with ISO Standard 17024. A new website, www.gbci.org, has been launched to provide information for LEED AP professionals and interested candidates.
