In this new ARCHITECT Studio Session, The State of Residential Design Today: Innovations and Insights from RADA-Winning Architects, three 2024 Residential Architecture Design Awards (RADA) winners share how their projects reflect these shifts and point to where residential design is headed.
Moderated by ARCHITECT editor-in-chief Paul Makovsky and underwritten by Heat & Glo, the webinar features Abel Garcia of Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects, Nick Hopson of Hopson Rodstrom Design, and Scott Specht of Specht Novak. The trio unpacks design lessons around urban infill, adaptive reuse, accessory dwelling units (ADUs), and more.
Highlights include Garcia’s discussion of Isla Intersections, an affordable multifamily complex in Los Angeles built from recycled shipping containers; Hopson’s reimagining of a block of bungalows in Riverside, Calif.; and Specht’s tour of Stealth House, a small home in downtown Austin, Texas, with no windows on the outer walls, which creates privacy in a dense urban setting.
