Tokyo is next in line to host the Summer Olympics, which kick off in that city on July 24, 2020. On Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) agreed to award the following two games—in 2024 and 2028—to the host cities of Los Angeles and Paris, assuming that the two cities can determine which one hosts first before the 131st IOC Session in Lima in September. “Ensuring the stability of the Olympic Games for 11 years is something extraordinary,” IOC president Thomas Bach said at a press conference. CNN reports: “If the two cities can’t settle the question of who would get which games, the IOC would decide in September. In that case, the 2028 games could be open to additional bidders.” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo both appeared at the IOC Session on Tuesday.
