AIA’s Board Appoints Two New Public Directors

Ron Miller and Katharine Weymouth will advise and supplement the AIA Board with their respective expertise in engineering, marketing, management, and media.

The American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Board of Directors selected Ron Miller and Katharine Weymouth to serve as public directors. In these roles, Miller and Weymouthwill provide guidance in the areas they have professional and personal expertise.

Miller is vice president of innovation for BlueScope Building North America (BBNA), a manufacturer for engineering building solutions in Kansas City, Mo. His background involves areas such as engineering, consulting, and management. Miller holds a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering from Tufts University, and a Master’s in Business Administration from the Tuck School, Dartmouth College’s graduate-level business school.

Thomas Vonier, FAIA, president of the AIA, said in an AIA press release: “With very clear views on the power of design, Ron has unique perspectives on how new, factory-based design and manufacturing technologies are forever changing buildings.”

Weymouth is a senior advisor at Laurel Strategies, a global business advisory and strategic communications firm, and formerly served as publisher and CEO of The Washington Post—which are both located in Washington, D.C. She also serves on the boards of the Graham Holdings, The Economic Club of Washington, D.C., The Philip Graham Fund, and The Field School.

“Katharine has an extraordinary grasp of the media world, and of our nearly-universal transition to digital life,” Vonier said in the press release. “I greatly admire her courageous record of profound commitment to civil discourse based on facts. She also has an innate love of architecture and deep affinity for our profession.”
