The International Association of Lighting Designers has announced changes to the team directing the association’s public policy efforts. Dawn P. Latham is the new Director of Public Policy, and will step into the role held by John Martin who is retiring at the end of 2018. According to the press release, “Latham is charged with developing [the] IALD’s global public policy strategy and directing the Association’s complex public policy efforts. She heads up a team that has expanded to include Emily Bowers, Sr. Public Policy Coordinator, and Claire Couet, IALD Regulatory Affairs Consultant for the European Union.”

The IALD has focused on a number of policy issues over the past 10 years, and “…established critical working relationships focusing on lighting-related policy issues with more than 20 organizations globally.” Issues of note include sales taxes, light and health, and energy codes.

The global policy team will continue the Association’s efforts to coordinate policy-related activities across the 45 countries representing IALD members. The team will also focus on creating public awareness about key lighting issues such as the optimization of light for health and well-being, energy codes, and quality of light initiatives.

IALD CEO Marsha Turner said, “We are poised to extend the IALD’s reach well beyond what might be anticipated for such a small organization. We have made great progress over the past decade in the global public policy arena. I congratulate our dedicated volunteers and our long-time public policy consultant, Dr. John Martin, on work well done. John will be retiring at the end of 2018, and we are thrilled to be able to build and expand on the excellent work that he and others have initiated.”
