MAD Architects Breaks Ground on a China Sports Center

A massive park-like complex is coming to the city of Quzhou.

A new sports center in Quzhou, China, has started construction. Designed by MAD Architects—which has offices in Beijing, Los Angeles, and New York—the Quzhou Sports Campus is designed to look like a series of hills set into a park, disguising hundreds of thousands of square meters of facilities including a stadium, a natatorium, a gymnasium, a museum, a hotel, a youth center, and retail.

“MAD envisions a surreal, ethereal and tranquil artistic landscape in this modern city, like a mirage, that has the potential to become a place of spiritual belonging for the future of the city,” the firm noted in a news release on Saturday.
