Project Description
A family of three wished to renovate their existing single family brick ranch located just outside of Washington DC. In addition to the more immediate goal of creating a home which reflected their sense of aesthetics and rhythm of day to day life, there was the equally important long term goal of generating a plan within which the parents could age in place comfortably without need for future modification…thus, the creation of a design / plan that emphasized livability on a single level. The existing home was completely gutted, and a new plan creating a comfortable, but not excessive Main Bedroom Suite, Children’s Bedroom, and Kitchen / Family / Living area ensemble was generated. A semi-formal Dining Room to accommodate frequent hosting of family and friends balances out the well appointed Kitchen. Critical to decisions related to materials, finishes, and detailing were the owners love of sailing and the nautical history of the nearby Chesapeake bay.
