Project Description
The Arcturis-designed GROW agricultural pavilion recently opened at the St. Louis Science Center (SLSC) and is the museum’s largest major addition in 25 years. GROW is a permanent space that highlights the journey of food from farm to fork through 40 interactive exhibits, demonstrations and events, and helps visitors gain a deeper understanding of our food supply.
The project’s centerpiece is a 5,000 square foot permanent pavilion that has a flexible, open floor plan and will house ever-changing exhibits and events.
“The design concept of the pavilion was to create one simple formal gesture that is reflective of the agricultural history of the Midwest interpreted in a modern way.,” said Chrissy Hill Rogers, Director at Arcturis.
The pavilion is an integral part of the overall GROW project, which encompasses a full acre of indoor and outdoor learning space, interactive activities and exhibits. It is the largest exhibition to focus solely on agriculture in the United States and greatly extends SLSC’s footprint.
Arcturis engaged Gyo Obata to be a part of their design team. Mr. Obata was the original architect of the SLSC’s famed Planetarium, which was built in 1963.
