Project Description

FROM AIA MARYLAND:
Understanding that the world we now live in is multi-centric, globally interdependent, and always changing, Duke University is expanding the traditional boundaries of education with a vibrant master plan and innovative facility in Kunshan, China.

Jury Comments:
The design of an entire campus from scratch can risk architectural tedium, yet this six-building complex is vibrant and fresh. It draws from local architectural vernacular and cultural context to create a place of beauty and discovery, with new experiences around every corner. The jury applauds the use of daylight, shading, passive cooling and flood control which produced the first LEED certified campus in China.
