Project Description

FROM THE CLIENT:

The Hugh K. Schilling Math and Science Center will be constructed on the northeast corner of SPA’s Randolph Campus. The school’s 1928 east wing addition will be demolished and the new facility built along Davern Street, connected to the school’s original building, Old Main, by a two-story glass passageway. When completed, the Hugh K. Schilling Math and Science Center will total 38,977 square feet, increasing the school’s space for math and science by 14,000 square feet. This includes a learning area increase of 127% for science and 110% for math.

Construction of the building will begin in the spring of 2017, with the demolition of the school's current east wing. The construction timeline calls for completion of the building in summer 2018, in time for the opening of the 2017-18 school year. SPA will once again partner with HGA Architects and Engineers on the design of the building, and with McGough on its construction. HGA and McGough worked with the school on the design and construction of the Huss Center for Performing Arts, which opened in the fall of 2015.

The Hugh K. Schilling Math and Science Center is the first and signature piece of a comprehensive, multi-year interior renovation of SPA’s entire Upper School, including classrooms, the library, faculty offices, and gathering spaces.
