Project Description

The Campus Master Plan for Dartmouth supports key strategic initiatives, within a framework of connectivity and landscape to guide development of academic, residential, and campus life spaces.

Building on Dartmouth’s legacy of thoughtful planning, the Master Plan provides a framework for growth while increasing the amount and quality of landscape on the historic campus, and maintaining a sense of openness and human scale that is fundamental to the Dartmouth experience. Recognizing Dartmouth’s unique mosaic of academic and residential space and its relationship to the Town of Hanover, the Master Plan supports interdisciplinary, undergraduate, graduate and research linkages, addresses housing and campus life for students, faculty, and staff, reinforces the college’s goals of integrating the academic and social lives of students, and supports a thriving downtown. The Plan enables short and long-term development by optimizing the reuse of existing buildings through space assessments, reorganizing vehicular circulation and parking to create opportunities for new pedestrian walkways, landscapes, and building sites, and integrating stormwater management with landscape to beautify the campus while improving hydrology. The plan is organized around campus connectivity, connecting diverse campus areas back to the Dartmouth Green center. The West End Master Plan furthers these goals by establishing a new Green to Blue path from the Dartmouth Green to the Connecticut River, creating expansion opportunities for the Thayer School of Engineering, the Department of Computer Science, and the Tuck School of Business.
