Today, the Redefining St Hilda’s Design Competition unveiled images of its top five concept proposals. Launched in the fall of 2015, the competition is organized by London-based architectural consultancy Malcolm Reading Consultants and St Hilda’s College at Oxford University in Oxford, England. The winning concept aims to update the college’s front-of-house buildings, provide additional accommodation for students, and create new social and academic spaces.
The proposals come from London-based firms 6a Architects, DRDH Architects, Gort Scott, Tim Ronalds Architects, and Belfast, Ireland–based Hall McKnight, which were the five firms selected for the shortlist in October.

Founded in 1893, St Hilda’s was one of the original five women’s colleges at Oxford in its time, but has been accepting students of all genders since 2008. The £10 million ($14,389,550) face lift is part of the college’s 125th anniversary campaign.
“We are keenly aware of the legacy we give to future generations as well as the opportunity to enhance Oxford itself,” St Hilda’s college principal, Professor Sir Gordon Duff, said in a press release. “This initiative is all about reimagining this beautiful site and creating an academic environment which is pleasing and satisfying to use, and which enables the College to flourish over the next hundred years.”
The designs will be on exhibition at St Hilda’s on Feb. 1–12 for invited guests and stakeholders. Jury interviews will be taking place in early March, with a winner set to be announced later in that month.
