Project Description
The site is located in the Colville conservation area of Notting Hill ,London and the owner of the existing garage used to rent it to a sign maker until it became dilapidated .We have tried for a number of years to convince the local authority to consider us building a house on the site. The brief consists of a lower ground with a courtyard accessed from a large kitchen /dining and sitting area ,natural light and air to this space was critical and a glass floor in the ground floor and glazed doors and windows to the atria above the courtyard were necessary to give the space a comfortable quality .The ground floor is accessed from the mews to a stair lobby with double height space which leads to the ground floor reception room which is filled with light from the cast glass panels and allow light to the lower ground floor .
The upper floors include three double bedrooms with own bathrooms .The design was granted planning permission after three years of negotiation and seven party wall awards .Construction which was ‘key hole surgery’ lasted two years and the building is complete and occupied
