Project Description

This international competition-winning design envisions a place of respite for newly arrived migrants to the U.S. The new center will provide a permanent home for the operation envisioned and managed by Sister Norma Pimentel, MJ. Operating in borrowed space since 2014, the center has greeted migrants recently granted asylum by providing warm showers and meals, personal items, and helping them make travel arrangements. The design incorporates a range of sustainable design features, including daylighting, thermal mass heating and cooling, green walls, and solar panels.
