Project Description

From Maurice Walters Architect:

Maurice Walters Architect provided architectural design services for the conceptual design and Planned Unit Development (PUD) Application for this mixed-use development. We were also Design Architect for the PUD Phase, Schematic Design, and Design Development Phases.

The site is located adjacent to the Brookland/Catholic University Metro Station and is part of a five-block mixed-use redevelopment of the Catholic University South Campus. The central feature of the Arts Walk is a new pedestrian street that is an extension of 8th Street, NE between Monroe Street and the Michigan Avenue viaduct. Ground-level artists’ studios and retail space open on to the new pedestrian Arts Walk, and a new public piazza is situated at its north end.

The program consists of below-grade parking, ground level retail, artists’ studios, and upper-level rental housing.
