Project Description

The temporary residence project on Monneret de Villard Street aims for the reconstruction of an old student housing building in the Lambrate area of Milan with the objective of creating a new energy efficient residential complex for students and solving a series of various critical issues related to the existing building, such as security and energy consumption.
The project’s goals were aimed to increase the number of available rooms for students of the Universities of Milan with quality temporary housing solutions, which were also to be economically accessible, and to improve the impact of the context in which the building is located.
The existing building is located in the area with a strong human presence, affected by a dense network of pre-existing structures. It was decided to renovate the building’s envelope with a new facade, characterized by volumes playing off the grid on the perimeter walls, to redefine the skyline through the reorganization of the massing of solids and voids, and to add additional floors
Thanks to this new configuration the entire block became more recognizable with its' volumetric character in a harmonious dialogue with the buildings of the area and public open spaces around it.
The restoration and reconstruction of the university housing in Monneret Street also involved an accurate study of materials and technologies which could be used to achieve the class A energy rating.
