Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lighting Research Center (LRC) has awarded its 2007-08 ASSIST Scholarship to Tianming Dong, a third-year Ph.D. student at the LRC. ASSIST (Alliance for Solid-State Illumination Systems and Technologies) is a consortium of researchers, manufacturers, and government organizations partnering to find solutions to the technical hurdles of the solid-state lighting industry.
Dong has focused his studies on understanding the thermal issues of high-power LEDs and on developing thermal management strategies for LED light fixtures, including heat sink design and thermal packaging materials, according to the LRC.
