Project Description

With the construction of Oceanside High School’s new Performing Arts Center (PAC), the city of Oceanside established both a defining landmark and a focal point for the performing arts in the region. The city’s first civic arts center, the PAC will serve both the local high school and the surrounding community. This dual-usage approach integrates academic programs and public civic arts performances and provides high school arts students opportunities to collaborate with professional performers. Unanimously selected as the winner of an open design competition, the structure’s design is versatile and adaptable. Capitalizing on its location, the exterior elevation joins an ongoing conversation with two beloved historic landmarks: the Mission San Luis Rey, and the art deco City Hall. Inside, traditional proscenium stages and versatile flex spaces merge with informal, indoor/outdoor nodes. A significant contribution to the city’s cultural offerings, the completed project is a tribute to the values and vision of all involved, and stands as a testament to Oceanside’s ongoing commitment to community, education and the arts.
