Project Description
The inspiration of this home is drawn from a typical “L” and “T” shaped farmhouse found throughout the Midwest. Examples of these structures dot the countryside throughout Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.
This home consists of casement windows in a two over two pattern reflecting the common two over two double hung, and replicate the two window gabled ends found in larger farm houses. The porch runs along the front like any typical farm house, but floats approximately two feet in front of this wall allowing light and shadow to pass between the house and the porch structure. A “Live Roof” was used for the porch material which serves as a green element and a visual element from the second floor. Porch columns are paired and connected with galvanized piping lattice. The widthwise facade is punctuated on the first floor with windows that allow the house to be seen as transparent from front to back.
A neutral color palette was chosen to blend with the outdoors and create a tranquil and soothing environment. Utilizing the exterior siding and galvanized piping inside creates a cohesive integration of materials throughout the home.
