The oldest continuously operating bootmaker in the United States, The Frye Company, utilized wire mesh from Banker Wire to ensure its newly opened 6,000-square-foot flagship store in New York projected an upscale, stylish image. The store opened in a century-old cast-iron factory, and the goal was to complement the existing space while reflecting the high craftsmanship of Frye’s boots and the company’s 148-year legacy.
“We thought this was the kind of space a skilled craftsperson would have built over 100 years ago, around the time the Frye Boot Company was created,” said Greg Bradshaw, partner at New York-based architectural firm, AvroKO, which oversaw the project. “We chose Banker Wire because the quality of the mesh was quite good and we like the selection of mesh sizes. The client was very happy with the final product and the mesh looks lovely in the space.”
“Wire mesh adds a unique aesthetic appeal,” said Harrison Horan, Vice President of Banker Wire. “Because the opacity of the mesh changes with the viewer’s angle of sight, wire mesh can provide both a feeling of separation and openness at the same time, which is exactly the goal in so many architectural projects.”
AvroKO makes use of woven mesh on a regular basis. “It provides a great geometric pattern, while maintaining a light presence in the room,” Mr. Bradshaw said. “Layering of various patterns can create an interesting effect.”
