The Art Institute of Chicago is having a revolving-door moment. Architect Wellington “Duke” Reiter, who has been president of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since the summer of 2008, sent a letter to school community on April 5 that he would be stepping down. A few days later he told Crain’s Chicago Business that the decision to leave the school and move to Arizona was for “personal reasons.” The school has said it will begin the search for a replacement soon.
On April 12, Blair Kamin reported on his Chicago Tribune blog that Joseph Rosa, the Art Institute of Chicago’s chief curator of architecture and design, will be departing in July, after five years at the museum, to become the director of the University of Michgan Museum of Art. Zoe Ryan, the institute’s curator of design, will serve as the interim of the architecture and design department until a new person is found.
