‘Donald Judd: A Good Chair is a Good Chair’

Judd Foundation

Complaints were made about the comfort of minimalist artist Donald Judd’s chair designs, but Judd (1928–1994) wrote: “The furniture is comfortable to me. … A straight chair is best for eating or writing. The third position is standing.” Donald Judd: A Good Chair Is a Good Chair, at the International Design Museum in Munich, displays his furniture in the context of the museum’s work by designers that Judd admired: the Eameses and Dieter Rams.
