The United States added 211,000 jobs in November, according to the latest monthly employment report released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The growth in November is slightly less than the growth experienced in October, when the economy added 298,000 jobs (revised up from the 271,000 jobs that the bureau initially reported). Today’s BLS figure is similar to what payroll company ADP and Moody’s Analytics reported on Wednesday.

According to today’s BLS report, construction added 46,000 jobs in November, which marks the strongest month of job growth in the industry since January 2014. (Caveat: the numbers released today are preliminary, as they are every month, meaning that the numbers could be revised in the coming months.) Manufacturing lost 1,000 jobs after adding 1,000 jobs in October. Architectural and engineering services also lost jobs (1,100) following two months of growth.

Residential construction added more than three times the amount of jobs than nonresidential construction (32,100 versus 9,300). Jobs in the construction of buildings overall grew by 6,400, marking the strongest month of growth since January. Heavy and civil engineering construction added 4,600 jobs. Specialty trade contractor jobs increased by 35,000—the most in one month since January 2014.
