We’re two months out from the U.S. Green Building Council‘s (USGBC’s) 14th-annual Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, held from Nov. 18 to Nov. 20 in ARCHITECT’s hometown of Washington, D.C. The theme of this year’s show is “Monumental Green,” a nod to the capital city’s many memorials and the idea that green buildings can serve as “modern monuments to what we deem important,” according to the event’s website.
This year’s Greenbuild will provide plenty of options for attendees to obtain continuing education credits, offering 200 sessions, tours, workshops, summits, and education sessions. The tours include visits to the U.S. Capitol, the under-construction National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Geographic Society’s headquarters, the Smithsonian Institution’s National Zoological Park, and Nationals Park.
Expanding upon last year’s new offerings for the residential-construction sector, this year’s Greenbuild will introduce the Greenbuild UnityHome, a LEED Platinum demonstration home built on the showroom floor. It will also offer new sessions on single-family and multifamily design, as well as a product pavilion dedicated solely to residential-focused building materials.
The USGBC has not yet revealed the speakers for this year’s opening and closing plenaries, held Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m, and Nov. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., respectively. Unlike previous years, the opening plenary will take place separately from the Greenbuild Celebration—which will feature indie pop band Fitz and The Tantrums as the headliner—held on Nov. 19, at the nearby Newseum, a museum about media and journalism.
