Zaha Hadid Architects Wins Danjiang Bridge Design Competition

The London-based firm will work with Leonhardt, Andrä & Partner and Sinotech Engineering Consultants to build the new bridge in Taiwan.

Danjiang Bridge by Zaha Hadid Architects

Today, London-based Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) announced in a press release that it won the Danjiang Bridge International Competition. ZHA will work with German-based civil engineering company Leonhardt, Andrä & Partner, and Taiwan-based Sinotech Engineering Consultants.

The bridge will be located on the Tamsui River in Taipei, and is set to be an important addition to the northern Taiwan region. The structure will create easier connections between neighborhoods, resulting in decreased traffic congestion and more accessibility across the area.

The Danjiang Bridge is anticipated to be the world’s longest single-tower, asymmetric cable-stayed bridge, according to ZHA. It will support a 3018-foot road, and have a single concrete structural mast in order to refrain from disrupting the view of the river and sunset over the strait.

There were five official winners for the competition, four of which will be awarded prize money for their contributions and one of which will become realized. CECI and Nippon Engineering Consultants placed second; Aecom Asia and Resources Engineering Services came in third; MAA Group and Cowi ranked fourth; and Oriental Consultants with Pacific Engineers & Constructors and Pyunghwa Engineering Consultants and Pacific Consultants with Taiwan Engineering Consultants and Yuang Engineering Consultants rounded out the winners.
