Job growth in the United States slowed slightly last month, according to the July employment report released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).
Overall, the economy added 215,000 jobs in July, which is less than the 231,000 jobs added in June (revised up from the initially reported 223,000) and 260,000 jobs added in May (also revised up). The figure from today’s BLS report is higher than the 185,000 jobs that payroll company ADP and Moody’s Analytics reported on Wednesday.
Last month, construction added 6,000 jobs, manufacturing added 15,000 jobs, and architectural and engineering services added 6,400 jobs.
Within the construction sector, 5,100 jobs were added in the construction of buildings, and 2,900 were added in heavy and civil engineering construction. Specialty trade contractors lost 1,500 jobs, marking the second straight month of losses for that part of the sector.
