Philips’ Five Dollar Light Bulb

1 MIN READ

Launched for Earth Day 2015 (April 22), Philips has added a new 60W LED equivalent lamp to its A19 product line. The 60W shatter-resistant LED lamp will be sold via Homedepot.com initially and then in stores starting in May. For the first 90 days of the lamp’s launch it will be sold in a two-for-one pack. The new lamp uses just 8.5W of power, and according to Philips, over the lamp’s expected 10 year life, will cost just $1.02 to operate. The lamp will first be offered in 2700K warm-white followed by a 5000K version.
“From the introduction of SlimStyle to our premium offerings that dim with a warm, familiar glow and this latest offering, Philips has continued to innovate and drive affordability and choice in the consumer LED market,” said Amy Huntington, president of Philips Lighting Americas, in a prepared statement. “However, we also understand that quality LEDs should not be a luxury or something that only those that live in areas with robust utility rebate programs can afford. With this bulb, consumers have a quality, day-to-day option for any area in their home that is as good for their wallet as it is for the environment.”
