Minor No. 1, Tom Raffield
Tom Raffield, a designer based in the United Kingdom, revised the design of his No. 1 pendant in a fixture that uses more than 90 feet of wide, steam-bent ash strips that are coiled and twisted to conceal an internal E26 or E27–base light source. The Minor No. 1 pendant is offered in a 17″ diameter as well as in custom sizes.
IC Lights, Flos
Designer Michael Anastassiades’ new collection of floor, pendant, table, and wall-mounted luminaires for Flos can now be purchased following its spring 2013 introduction. The IC Lights’ opaque glass diffusers appear delicately mounted on a brass arm, giving designers an inspired means of balancing illumination indoors.
Belle, David Trubridge
The New Zealand–based studio has added a new luminaire to its flat-packed Seed System. Made from bamboo plywood that is finished in natural, caramel (shown), and black water-based, low-VOC stains, Belle is designed to be constructed on-site in an effort to reduce the environmental impact of shipping, the company says. Slender openings between the wood slats emit enough light to create visual interest but not to fully light a space.
Hazy Day, Marset
A diffuser whose gradient surface fades from opaque to transparent helps Hazy Day achieve its goal of giving shape to twilight. A curved ridge detail references the craft of glassblowing while breaking up the conventional luminous sphere.
