The AIA is continuing to encourage its members and other building professionals to lobby their U.S. Senators to preserve the use of 2030 Challenge goals in federal buildings, and says that the next two weeks may be critical.
The association says that before Senate members leave for their August recess, North Dakota Senator John Hoeven (R-ND) is planning to offer an amendment that would repeat a 2007 law targets fossil-fuel reductions for federal buildings based on the 2030 Challenge goals. Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) is also offering an amendment that would make changes to the law, but would not repeal it.
The AIA is strongly encouraging its members and components to lobby their U.S. Senators regarding the amendments, and has drafted a letter that expresses support for the Whitehouse Amendment. The deadline to sign the letter is Friday, July 26 at 5 p.m. PDT.
