Frank Gehry, FAIA, donated $100,000 to the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc), which will fund the newly established Gehry Prize. So often the recipient of architectural prizes, now Gehry will be the one to bestow the award on the winner. The first Gehry Prize will be awarded at SCI-Arc’s graduation ceremony on Sunday.

The prize will go to the student with the best thesis project, as determined by a panel of jurors during the school’s Graduate Thesis Weekend held this month. For many students, shaking hands with an esteemed architect such as Gehry may be the real reward.
