The Lighting Practice Opens New York City Office

The new office complements the firm’s Philadelphia location and accommodates the firm’s growth.

The Lighting Practice, which to date has been headquartered in Philadelphia, has announced the opening of a second office location in New York City’s a Financial District at 115 Broadway. The New York office will be led by Principal Alfred Borden and Associate Jon Hoyle. The decision to open a New York location corresponds to the firm’s growth and will serve “as a home base for local and national projects.”

Helen Diemer, principal and president of the Lighting Practice and who is based in the Philadelphia office, said in a prepared statement, “The Lighting Practice’s New York office is an important step that supports our plan for growth. We look forward to expanding our relationships and continuing to collaborate with our New York clients and design partners.” The firm has a history of working on projects in New York City and has been part of design teams for major landmarks including the Empire State Building, Madison Square Garden, and the Helmsley Building.

The Lighting Practice, a certified Women-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) through the NYC Department of Small Business Services, was established 29 years ago and has an extensive portfolio that includes “projects for public spaces, streetscapes, mixed-use, hospitality, retail, corporate, education, healthcare, and historic environments.” At present the team consists of 30 personnel working on myriad projects in the United States and abroad.

Neal Award for her Editor’s Comments in the category of Best Commentary/Blog, and in 2015, AL received a Jesse H. Neal Award for Best Media Brand (Overall Editorial Excellence).Prior to her entry into design journalism, Donoff worked in New York City architectural offices including FXFowle where she was part of the project teams for the Reuters Building at Three Times Square and the New York Times Headquarters. She is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston, Me., and she earned her Master of Architecture degree from the School of Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis.
