Architect Peter Marino, FAIA, has announced plans to open his own art foundation in Southampton, N.Y. The announcement came during the opening reception for “Counterpoint: Selections from the Peter Marino Collection” at the Southampton Arts Center (SAC). According to the architect’s website, this was the first time Marino publicly revealed plans for his eponymous art foundation.
The “Peter Marino Art Foundation demonstrates Marino’s intention to integrate his lifelong involvement with art across disciplines and mediums with the Southampton community,” according to a press release.
To be located in the two-story, 8,000-square-foot former Rogers Memorial Library at 11 Jobs Lane, adjacent to the SAC, the Peter Marino Art Foundation will feature a permanent public exhibition displaying artworks from the Peter Marino Collection as well as rotating exhibitions showcasing works from guest artists and local collaborators. The space will also offer educational programs aimed at younger audiences and students.
Marino plans to restore the 1895 former library, originally designed by late architect R.H. Robertson—who also designed Park Row and Lincoln buildings in New York. According to Marino’s website, the construction is set to break ground next September.
Following misconduct allegations against Marino back in March, the firm’s Lobster Club project in New York City had its 2018 Interior Merit Award taken away by AIANY.
