The following is an excerpt of a press release from the Atlanta-based firm Lord Aeck Sargent announcing its independent launch after the collapse of the construction startup Katerra. Established in 1989, when the firm Lord & Sargent merged with Aeck Associates, LAS became a Katerra company in 2018.

Lord Aeck Sargent (LAS) is pleased to announce that it has emerged as Lord Aeck Sargent Planning & Design, Inc., an independent design firm, owned and operated by its Principals and Directors. Building on the firm’s 80-year history, LAS is excited and invigorated to continue its dedication to its staff, to its clients and to design excellence. “Lord Aeck Sargent will continue to provide Responsive Design to all of our clients and will be an integral part of the industry and our communities—all six of our offices and eight areas of practice remain strong with a renewed commitment to creative solutions and to exceptional service,” states Joe Greco, AIA, LEED AP, president of Lord Aeck Sargent Planning & Design, Inc.
