Architect Dan Meis, FAIA, will lead the new athletic arm of Woods Bagot, the firm announced Tuesday. With the addition of Meis, the firm will add a practice group that specializes in stadiums and arenas. Meis will join the team as the global director of Woods Bagot Sport, working with global managing director Ross Donaldson.

Prior to coming to Woods Bagot, Meis designed the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the Seattle Mariners Safeco Field, and Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. Meis has worked in the sports and entertainment facilities industry for 25 years, both as a co-founding partner of NBBJ Sports and Entertainment and a senior principal with Populous.

Meis will continue designing the new NFL stadium at Grand Crossing in Los Angeles, which is where Woods Bagot Sport will be based. Meis’s team will also have a presence in New York, London, and Sydney.
