Each of the 10 architecture projects recently selected by The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and its Committee on the Environment (COTE) for the 2010 COTE Top 10 Green Projects award exemplify sustainable design and feature solutions engineered to protect and enhance the environment. The 14-year-old awards program recognizes the thoroughly integrated approach to architecture, natural systems, and technologies that go into creating truly sustainable buildings that contribute to their communities, as well as to their occupants.
The COTE Top 10 jury selected projects—schools, offices, affordable housing, a water treatment facility, and mixed-use buildings—that represent a wide range of viable sustainable strategies and “serve as examples of the kind of practical working solutions industrious designers can bring to every form of architecture,” according to the jury’s statement.
Winners of the 2010 COTE Top 10 Green Projects awards are:

- City of Watsonville Water Resources Center, Watsonville, Calif., by WRNS Studio, San Francisco.

- Kroon Hall – Yale University, New Haven, Conn., by Hopkins Architects of London and Centerbrook Architects & Planners of Centerbrook, Conn.
- Manassas Park Elementary School + Pre-K, Manassas Park, Va., by VMDO Architects, P.C., Charlottesville, Va.
- Manitoba Hydro Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba, by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects of Toronto, Ontario, and Smith Carter Architects and Engineers of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
- Michael J. Homer Science & Student Life Center, Atherton, Calif., by Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects, San Francisco.
